#5 The Fall of Saigon

The fall of Saigon took place on April 30th, 1975. It was the day that the North Vietnamese took the South Vietnamese's capital, Saigon. The North Vietnamese began the attack on the day before, bombarding the city with artillery under the leadership of General Van Tien Dung. By the next day the North Vietnamese had taken Saigon and renamed the city Ho Chi Minh City. However, before city fell, the Americans were able to evacuate the all the American civilians and military personnel along with a large portion of the South Vietnamese citizens under operation “frequent wind”.
